The sports club currently comprises a number of tennis courts and is surrounded by residential receptors, a public park and a shopping centre.
The Local Authority raised concerns that the Padel court would give rise to noise levels in an adverse manner and refused to grant planning permission with the original noise survey.
Peninsular Acoustics were called in to engage with the Local Authority who initially refused to change stance. However, following discussions with our client, we took a pragmatic approach whereby we said if the modelling wasn’t accurate through a verification survey, we’d install appropriate mitigation measures.
As such, the Local Authority accepted this proposal and following our verification survey we proved that our acoustic modelling is very accurate and we were successfully able to discharge the planning condition without the need for mitigation measures.
David Currie of Planning4Padel: “I have worked with Adam for a number of years a knew to contact him when we faced some challenges at planning stage. His attention to detail and accurate modelling proved that the inclusion of the Padel court would not be detrimental to nearby residents. Through their pragmatic approach, Peninsular Acoustics formed an efficient stream of dialogue with Sefton Borough Council planning and environmental health teams which has successfully secured the first padel tennis court in the area. Thank you!”
Carol Robertshaw, Captain of Formby Village Padel Club: “I am delighted to recommend Adam and his team at Peninsular Acoustics for their meticulous work helping us get the first padel tennis court in Sefton Borough Council.”
Adam Walker of Peninsular Acoustics: “Having worked on Padel Tennis for a while now, we’ve been able to accurately correlate our modelling assumptions with real world data meaning we can predict sound levels extremely well at nearby receptors. It is understandable that Local Authorities are cautious about introducing this sport to areas with residents nearby so our approach to offer a verification survey allowed our client to build the first court in the local area. Our verification survey then proved our modelling was accurate and I’m really pleased the court is now open to the members of the club.“
