Acoustic Design & Commissioning

It could simply be a check of a drawing and an email with advice, or RiBA Stage 1 layout planning through to commissioning and in-use questionnaires, we approach design in the same way: listen, understand and collaborate.

We recognise that through a commitment to collaboration and mutual understanding, every design we are involved in is able to achieve the desired outcome. We believe in the adage ‘a picture tells a thousand words’ and favour graphical representations of design over pages of text.

We recognise that our role as a consultant is to provide robust technical advice and maintain high standards both via our leading involvement in our professional bodies and via setting the standards for others to follow. However, communication is of equal importance to technical ability – solutions must work, they must be practical and sustainable, and they must be cost-effective, but they cannot be built if they are not understood.

We are very comfortable working in any capacity, whether it be to sketch a detail to improve sound insulation for an Approved Document E pre-completion test or providing RIBA stage acoustic reports, mark-ups, site inspections and acoustic commissioning.

Whilst we’re well versed in all the design standards for a project, or design methodologies e.g. BREEAM, our way of thinking is not to follow suit and tick boxes. We provide advice to cater for the needs of the project and if these requirements deviate from the norm, we are very comfortable in developing bespoke criteria or a bespoke approach to match these aspirations.

We are happy to develop a design from concept, produce Employer’s Requirements and maintain design standards client-side, or support the construction via appointment with a main contractor.

We have a full suit of our own specialist measurement equipment, with capability to commission any building or installation to any measurement standard, including BS EN ISO 16283, BS EN ISO 3382, BS 4142, the standards set out in BS EN ISO 3740, BS EN 60268, BS 5839 and BS 6472.

All our staff understand the necessary elements that make a design. This includes ensuring our designs satisfy CDM Regulations, adopting an active role to raise awareness of the health and safety implications with the Principal Designer, amongst the design team and/or with the main contractor.
